Allen Shoup named this wine in honor of his mother, Elizabeth Chester, and his grandmother, Maggie Kidder. He selected Long Shadows' director of winemaking, Gilles Nicault, to craft this New World blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and other classic Bordeaux varieties.
Tasting Notes:
PDFDark and refined, the 2023 Chester-Kidder opens with inviting aromas of black currant and graphite, with appealing hints of roasted coffee and nutmeg. Ripe red and black fruit unfold across a generous, beautifully balanced mid-palate, framed by fine-grained tannins that lend polish and definition. Elegant and concentrated, the wine carries its depth with ease, leading to a long finish with refined tannins that linger.
Vineyards
The 2023 Chester-Kidder brings together fruit from three distinct Columbia Valley AVAs. Red Mountain provides structure and backbone, Walla Walla Valley contributes luscious dark fruit, and the Wahluke Slope and surrounding areas add texture and breadth across the mid-palate. The result is a layered, complex blend with depth and dimension.
