- Drink -The 2023 Long Shadows ‘Cymbal’ Sauvignon Blanc was stored in 25% new French oak and is sourced from four separate sites— the McNary, Gamache, Boushey and Bacchus Vineyards. This has a magical push-pull in terms of weight and vibrancy. Beautifully-textured, this offers kumquat rind and Japanese pear flavors that mingle well with green papaya, freshly cut grass and cloves. A joy to consume, don’t serve this beauty too cold. The best yet of this edition by winemaker Gilles Nicault.
The aromas lead with notes of roasted espresso bean followed by dark coffee, black raspberry, fresh herb, and cherry. Full-bodied, rich, ripe black fruit flavors follow. A warm finish caps it off. As always, it's a walk on this variety's more opulent side.
The 2023 Cymbal Sauvignon Blanc is pungently floral with a wave of sweet spice and lemon zest giving way to sage and nectarines. This is seductively round and supple with a fresh mix of citrus-laced orchard fruits and hints of candied lime. The 2023 cleans up beautifully, long and potent yet fresh, with a mouthwatering resonance of sour melon.
Ripe lemons, sliced yellow apples and hints of spices and dried white flowers on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture and tense, focused acidity that forms the backbone of the wine. Focused and lingering.
The 2023 Cymbal Sauvignon Blanc is made from several vineyard sites, including the 1972 planting from Bacchus Vineyard, potentially the oldest Sauvignon Blanc in the state. Passionfruit and lemongrass give it contrasting complexity around medium-bodied layers of luscious texture and vibrancy. Drinking well now, it should continue to do so for the next 6-8 years.
The earthy scent of straw warming in the sun is matched by aromas of Bosc pears and lemon zest. Cymbal's poached pear, cinnamon, lemon curd and coconut flavors are ably backed by just enough acidity. The medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc's rich texture and long finish are the cherries on top of this one.
It has gregarious aromas of peach, guava, beeswax and tropical flowers. The medium-bodied palate is ripe and concentrated. Its generous flavors are foiled by vibrant acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish.
The 2023 Long Shadows Cymbal Sauvignon Blanc from the Columbia Valley spent six months maturing in a mix of concrete, stainless steel, and French oak, resulting in a beautifully textured and vibrant white. Aromas leap from the glass - fresh pineapple, white grapefruit, mango peel, and a touch of chamomile mingle with hints of waxy lemon blossom. The palate is medium-bodied yet lively, delivering flavors of green melon, passion fruit, and lime zest wrapped in a silky mouthfeel. Its brightness is sharpened by crisp acidity, giving definition to the wine’s tropical profile.
